Installation of a gas cooker

I recently bought a new gas cooker for my flat in Birmingham but I am unsure of how much I should be paying for it to be installed. I was quoted £80 plus up to £20 for parts by one company, and £50 all inclusive by another. Do these quotes sound right for the job?

The one for £50 sounds about right. The other one sounds a right rip off merchant, so avoid. You may be able to find someone to do it a little cheaper by shopping around a bit more.

If it's a bayonett fitting, then it's a very simple job, but you do need to have a qualified gas fitter to do the connection. Used to be Corgi registered that was required, but I believe they are now changing the name to something like Homesafe.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Corgi still exists, but Gas Safe Register( run by Capita) have taken over the registeration system of gas engineers
( corgi still runs the register in Northern Ireland and Channel Islands, )

We would charge £65+vat including parts/fittings.
You can now check online to make sure that any GasSafe registered engineer has actually got the qualifications for cookers or other work, which you could not do before so easily on Corgi. You can also see a picture of the engineer (which in most cases -although other halfs picture is not too bad- would put you off!!)

    Hi,

Sorry to jump in on your thread, hope you don't mind, I saw you were located In Bham area and wondered if you had found someone you recommend!

We have just been given a good working gas cooker, that's old about 11 years but in very very good condition, better than ours that's just 3 years old in fact. I was wondering if anyone knows if a corgi reg person will install this cooker without a manual. I'm trying to decide if it is worth the expense but it's a shame because it really is in fantastic condition for it's age. Any advice appreciated :)
