Surely it's just one offence. The passing of the day doesn't make any difference.

Lets say a police officer came along the street and gave you a ticket for no tax, then walked around the block and gave you a ticket again for no tax, and then repeated it 100 times, would that be reasonble too?
yes if the car still had NO tax;)

Does it seem fair that you can get 30 fines a month (£1620) while you cannot do anything about it?

But you can do something about it, either tax it on time, or don't leave it on a public road, not too difficult.

I just called them and they confirmed this. Yes, they can fine me for any number of times in the day and any number of days until I get my tax sorted. Isn't that just a little bit wrong???

I know I've done the offense and I took the responsibility for it by paying the fine and taxing it (and if you read my circumstances, you would see that it could happen to anyone and that I did not do it intentionally).

It seems I have to pay the second fine too. At least I remember well next time to change my address everywhere and to not forge about the tax disc.

In all fairness I think the OP rectified the position as soon as it was brought to their attention and has no quibble with the original penalty.

I think their question is quite proper. It does seem unfair to me.

    I'm astonished.

I think you need to write again and ask them to explain both fines and in the context of a (same?) fine on two consecutive days. The way these govt depts work they will not be linking the two and probably treating both as seperate incidents.

If that doesn't work the cheapest option would be to pay it, unless you have the stomach for a fight via a solicitor. But certainly see what they say at pepipoo.

But isn't it 'just a little bit wrong' that you didn't pay any tax for the month of feb.
What would happen if I didn't bother taxing my car for a year, should I only get 1 fine.
The car wasn't taxed, plenty of other people change address/go on holiday and still manage to tax their car, stop moaning and pay up, you did wrong.
  • Consecutive.

    See a solicitor.

    Good luck

To be honest, I would never try that. the reason is that I moved house recently and I forgot to change my address.

They can fine you for not telling them about your change of address too, can't they?
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

Yes. But it should be a bigger one to reflect the length of time the vehicle was untaxed.

The OP did pay up. They just don't think they should pay up twice.
