Is this a good deal for New York?

Hi everyone.

We are looking to book a holiday to New York. Leaving on the 27th Dec 09 and returning on the 2nd Jan 2010. We have been quoted £849 each to fly with virgin and to stay at the Waldorf hotel. Neither of us have ever been to NY before and were wondering how good a deal this really was. Had anyone stayed at this hotel?

Thanks

Well they have a special offer on at the moment, but it does look like this hotel is around £150.00 per night (each), which would suggest that this is a really good deal, but I am not the best bargain hunter in the world and just didn't want to get ripped off. It may be that i am looking in the wrong place for the best deals!

Have a look at the hotels website for the dates you are looking for, US hotels do not charge per person just 1 price for the room, that is where the travel companies rip you off.

I would not recommend the Waldorf. I know two couples that have stayed there and both have said they would not go back. I don't know if it has been refurbed since, but both said it was very tired.

Could you change your dates slightly? If so, you can fly direct with Delta from LHR for £303 if you go 28 Dec - 3 Jan. Then have a look at Priceline or Hotwire for hotels, and you'll get a much better deal.

Sorry, it was www.kayak.co.uk, if you play around with dates it will show prices for the main airlines. If you use LON and NYC as your airport codes it will search on all the airports for the respective areas.

My TA friend says the Waldorf is great, but she has never actually been there! I think it still trades off it's history rather than what it can offer now. I have stayed at the W New York, which is opposite the Waldorf, and it did look faded from the outside. If you can get any of the W's for a good price I would recommend them.
