I'm looking at buying a new pc for gaming, i love playing football management games ang gothic, i play gotic 3 on my old pc, but keeps freezing big time, got the upgrade of G3 but stutters so bad its unplayable,
found this one on pc world
Advent QC-7003 - Quad-Core PC with stunning Blu-Ray Player
Intel® Core 2 Quad Q8200 processor <LI class=indentFeature>2.33GHz, 1333MHz FSB, 4MB Cache
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
6GB RAM Memory
750GB SATA hard drive
Blu-Ray player and DVD Rewriter
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce 9300GS
costs £599.99
I have thought about building a pc from scratch, but dont' have a clue what to put in in, dont' really want to blow the bank just for gaming, I've had some experience in changing parts in a pc, eg fan, hard drive, slave drive, memory, grafic card, net card
all advise very much appreciated

simply - bluray player adds £100 to the price...will you ever use it?
256mb 9300GS is..to gaming cards...what the Reliant Robin is to supercars...
the q8200 isn't that good...better with a faster dual..or a faster quad
6gb of ram - for most people that'll be e-peen
..ie...the PC, as a gaming system, is a POS
is that £600 with monitor + keyb/mouse?Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
If you decide to go for this computer, check that it comes with a 64 bit version of Windows otherwise the computer won't see more than 3.5Gb.0

mouse, base unit and keyboard, no monitor, (already got pc, so just really need a baseunit)
I'm guessing by what you put, its not a very good gaming pc then0 -
No its not very good, you could build a better 1 than the pc world 1
I've seriously thought about building my own pc, but the motherboard is stopping me mainly, as not sure what one is good, and if i get one will it fit in my base unit i've already got, i've friends who are very good at pc stuff, they've told me to find one that fits my pc, but i've had no luck0 -
plenty of "build your own" threads about...personally new case=new PC...old case+new components=upgrade, so I like new cases

but...your £600 budget is more than enough to build a great gamer...and a 1tb drive for me...and change
If you have friends who are good with PC stuff..they could help you build?!Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
For the love of god avoid PC World, its expensive and rubbish!
Your comments suggest that you're comfortable upgrading bit and bobs, so why not try building your own. This bundle from Overclockers will give you a very capable machine and leave you with a couple of hundred quid to spare that you can blow on a proper graphics card.

All you'd need do is disconnect your hard drive and anything else you have in the PC, remove the motherboard and drop the bundle above in. Reconnect everything and voila! A very nice cheap upgrade. Your only concern might be Windows. If its an OEM version you might not be able to activate it. Although you could ring Microsoft and tell them that your PC was kaput and you were forced to change components in order to repair it.SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair.
