I've been stone deaf in my right ear since having mumps as a child.
A problem I have is with portable players, as far as I can tell none of them have a mono switch.
Thus when listening on headphones I dont hear half the content.
Its particularly bad on spoken word recordings.
Does anyone know of a mono adapter for the headphone leads.
PS I wonder is there are enough of us to start a campaign for mono audio! (Ha Ha)

Thomas,
Do you know an electronics type of person who could make you up a some headphones? It's simple enough to do. Are you in touch with any deaf/hard of hearing groups/charities? Perhaps they would have info on where to get some.Torgwen.....................

how about those little earphones that hook over your ear? You can get them for just one ear I think0

A mono plug adaptor into which you can plug a headphone plug should work. I have a mono 3.5mm plug into which you can plug the 6.3mm larger plug found at the end of many headphones. The mono plug will sum the two sides from the socket and so both sides on the headphone will be the same. However I'd want to check if it's advisable to put a mono plug into the amplified stereo output used for headphones - which I will check.
Edit:
And this suggestion turns out to be completely wrong! I could only get one channel using a mono plug and stereo headphones.0 -

4th item - a Hama headphone extension cable has a mono switch. However it being a 3m extension cable is a bind.
Perhaps a Google search for headphones with a mono switch - like these but cheaper:

Thanks for the advise, The hama cable seems good but long, its a pity noone seems to make a plug adaptor.
Sorry for the delay in replying but my pc died with one windows update too many and refused to come out of its boot cycle. All is well now though.
