we normaly receive our housing benefit on the day our rent is due. however due to the bank holiday our benefit hasn't been paid yet, but the standing order for the rent was still attempted to be paid by the bank. we have now incued a £60 charge from the bank. can we ask the council to pay this chage as it is their fault we couldn't pay

if you explain to the bank what has happened they may waive the charges for you .0

the bank said they wont and we need to claim it from the council0

I think its quite unlikely that you will be able to claim from the council. They will probably go down the train of thought that you could have forseen the problem as it was a bank holiday as its not really the councils fault either.
I think you will have more joy perstering the bank for a refund. Go into a branch if you can I always find that they are more helpful than someone on the end of the phone.:j0
