? Safe to buy a new Vauxhall

We are wanting to buy a new car - we usually buy from Vauxhall and have been happy with the Astra in the past. Been to a VW dealer and they seemed bored and disinclined to make any sort of deal, so thinking about a Vauxhall again.

Just a bit worried after hearing that they may go into some sort of administration in the US - sounds like it is some sort of legal jargon for a massive reorganisation, but I know there is a possibility they could go bust.

If I buy a new Vauxhall what happens about - the warranty, servicing and resale. I would obviously pay for the car on the credit card.

I don't want to spend months going round car dealerships haggling - that's why I want to stick with Vauxhall - also had no problems with the car. I have a car to trade in also so I don't think the net deals are for me - I will get more from a trade in than a private sale.

Many different cars out of there, what is your budget & requirements..

What do you expect as p/x, and how much do you want to borrow on top of the p/x price.

Some very nice cars out there, and not just vauxhalls.

Don't worry about it. Buy the car you want, Vauxhall will continue in one guise or another for the warranty life of your next car who ever the ownwers are would not want the bad publicity of refusing warranty claims. Servicing you can get anywhere (even in the warranty period as long as they follow vaux procedures). Resale if you are considering a new vaux you clearly are not that worried about residule value.

Find another VW dealer that is more intrested in your money if that is what you want.

With German incentives probably keeping production/sales fairly high in the home market VW dealers in the UK might not have much room to haggle?

I would be very concerned about GM, ( Vauxhall ) they may well go under, they really are in a financial mess.

Buy something else, you could well end up with no warranty.

If for example, you say you need..

    2 doors
    4 seats
    medium boot
have £12k to spend (inc p/x)
a car that will last me

I could recommend a 2008 BMW 1 series, 116 for that cash.. or thereabouts

    See here

Far far better in quality than a Vauxhall Asta,Vectra / Ford Focus, Mondeo.

I know where you are coming from but it looks as if there a number of parties interested in Vauxhall, needless to say two of the interested parties are Chinese (Rover buyers and the company that has a stake in Managanese Bronze (Londnn cabs)).

So with famous last words in mind they should be OK.

You could well be correct, however why take the risk?...it isn't as if Vauxhall made the best cars on the planet, and there is no guarantee that any possible new Chinese buyer would stand by any existing warranty.

I know I'm a bit cautious, but some people like to go with what they know. Also, I don't use my car much - just shopping and occasionally intensively for a holiday. I know there are a lot of different cars out there - but maybe too much choice. I don't want to spend a fortune and I don't care much about style (so long as it comes in blue) as I am part of the 50% of the population that is not really that interested in cars as an extension of my personality. One of my reasons for asking is that my local dealership has gone bust. :D

There are enough new, nearly new and well used GM cars on the road at the moment to keep GM service centres in business for a long while yet.

Up the road from me is a Rover specialist and they still do a good trade.

Just an example but a friend of mine bought a rover MGZS 180 12 months before rover went bust paid about £11k and got £3000 trade in 12 months later once rover were bust, if you plan on changing then hold out and see what happens I remember people rushing to buy 75% off rovers when they went bust, just the same you can still get parts for rovers so if you plan on purchasing and keeping for 10 years it doesnt matter what you buy.

If you want to sell it in 2 years be carefull what you buy.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.
