Travel Carlisle to Southampton

Just looking for a bit of advice about the cheapest way my (adult)daughter can get from Carlisle to Southampton and back again in one day.

She is actually going down to pick up her two ten year old cousins to bring them back up for a holiday. She will then need to do the repeat journey the following week to take them back home.

She could possibly fly from Glasgow to Southampton/Bournemouth if this would be cheaper. I realise she could possibly get a family rail card to bring the girls up and take them back again but whether or not this would be worth it I don't know.

Any help would be much appreciated. :o

You haven't given any dates, but it seems that the cheapest way to to this is....
when travelling by herself, your daughter should fly. Flybe GLA -SOU can be done for £59.98 return.
when travelling with girls get a Familly and Friends railcard. Reduces the off peak flexible rail fare from £231.80 to £120.60 - thats for all three of them return. Without dates it is difficult to find anything better.
Without flying one way it would be difficult (and very tiring) to do a return trip in a day.

You can also fly from Newcastle to Southampton with Flybe - would that not be a bit easier?
