Cat mess in house

Hi,
I know you get loads of threads on here about cats messing in the house and I have read through them and tried just about everything suggested.
But I reached the end of my tether today, I have three cats, two are just under two years old and boys, the third one is a girl round about 8 months old. I don't have a problem with the older two, they are perfect and go outside to go to the loo. The yongest one I have only recently started letting out (this weekend) after she was spayed. And I let her out in the hope it would stop her messing in the house because she had been doing it since she hit around six months old, she has no infections or anything the vet checked her over so I know its not that.....but anyway to cut a long story short, I let her in the house to feed her and she ran straight into the living room and peed on the rug right in front of me! This is just too frustrating, the litter trays had just been cleaned too.....
So anyway, my friend has a dog crate and I was just wondering if I could somehow re-train her either to go outside (like a dog) or use the tray again using the crate. She would only be in it overnight and when I go out, all other times I can keep an eye on her and confine her to the room where the tray is (there is two trays) but really I am getting quite frustrated with her and the house is starting to smell despite the special stuff I paid £6 thats meant to clean the carpets and stop them going in the same place.
Any advise gratefully received. Thanks

My daughter had the same problem a couple of years ago, but did resolve it eventually.
Have you tried biological washing powder to clean the places she pees....this is good for removing odours......or surgical spirit?
Make sure the litter tray isn't too near where she eats as cats don't like toileting close to their dining area!
It may be worth using 2/3 litter trays in different places, maybe even covering the spots she finds most interesting, and then gradually moving them to where you want her to toilet.
I do hope you find an answer to your problem as cat pee isn't the best air freshener, is it0 -
I have a 5 year old male tom that we got 2 years ago from animal rescue, He sprays everywhere. Took him to the vets last year cost a fortune for tests, and anti-biotics for crystals in the urine and after all that he still does it.
Litter trays no good for mine as he doen't sit down and pee. Tried squirting him with a water bottle everytime i can catch him but no use so just glad its getting better weather so he spends most his time outside.
I seem to have a plug in air freshner in every room lol0 -
I don't think you can crate train a cat like a dog. The cat would only get stressed out if shut in one during the night as they are nocturnal and more active at night. You just have to be patient and hope she grows out of it. Something is spooking her to do this but you cannot housetrain a cat like you would a dog.0

You should take your cat outside and if she goes to the toilet outside, give her loads of praise, maybe even a treat. When she goes indoors, give her no praise and make sure she knows it's wrong. She should soon learn that she should be going outside, not inside..Sometimes.I.Wonder.Why.I'm.Still.Here..Sometimes.I.Think.I'm.Going.Crazy.0

Its really difficult because there are loads of reasons why a cat will spray or wee. Can you post some more info?
Does she wee in the same place / room all the time?
Have you changed her cat litter?
Does she do it more than a couple of times a day?
3 cats so 3 litter trays?
Is she a nervous cat?
Did anything change around the time she started weeing?
Does she spray or just wee?
Do the other cats allow her access to the tray (i.e. not sit in its path and block her from getting to them)?
Will she use the tray at all?
I would not squirt it with water when it has an accident:eek: or let it know that it has done something wrong:eek::eek:0 -
is the girl cat neutered? are the two boys neutuered? hormones can cause this sort of behaviour.0

Yep, they are neutured, I have racked my brains to think of anything that may have stressed her out but I can't think of anything. I really am at the end of my tether with her because shes such a lovely cat otherwise.0

my cat keeps doing it in my daughters bed room , iv sprayed repelant down and it seems to have done the job . oh and i took her over to it and told her she was naughty every time. " bad kitty" lol and iv been making sure she has had alot more attention.
my oh parents have an impostor that comes into there house in the night and sprays every where ( they have a cat flap)0 -
They may be trying to mark their territory because you have 3 cats in one house, we have 5 so I know how you feel! They get used to their own spots and it can be a nightmare to try and stop!
One of our cats used to pee on the paper as soon as it came through the letter box each morning, we used to have to race him to the door and god forbid we slept in one day!
Another one had a thing for plastic bags (yukky when you have just bought new clothes or food)!
All of ours just stopped doing it eventually and found that the garden or the litter trays do just as well.0 -

Yep, its either on the rug in the living room or the rug upstairs. The upstairs one was chucked away so she stopped doing it there but still uses the rug in the living room. Throwing that one away is not an option, it was a present from my Mum.
Have you changed her cat litter? Nope, still the same wood pellets shes always used.
Does she do it more than a couple of times a day? As far as I know its one or two times a day and she will poo on the rug too, in fact when I had the upstairs rug spread out and drying (washed with bio powder) she made the effort to jump up to where it was and pooed on it.....also tried moving rug and putting tray there instead, nope still used rug!
3 cats so 3 litter trays? Only have two, both for her, the other two ask to go outside when the need the loo..
Is she a nervous cat? No, very confident
Did anything change around the time she started weeing? The only thing I can think of is that she started doing it when she was about 6 months old and I think thats when cats usually have their first season.....other than that everything in the house has stayed the same.
Does she spray or just wee? definately wee
Do the other cats allow her access to the tray (i.e. not sit in its path and block her from getting to them)? no, they tend to ignore her and don't stop her from getting to them, they show no interest in the trays.
Will she use the tray at all? Only when its clean, used more than once by her she won't use it even when its only wee, poo gets cleaned up right away. Its Costing me a fortunate in cat litter..
I would not squirt it with water when it has an accident:eek: or let it know that it has done something wrong:eek::eek:
I can't think of anything else, the vet did suggest changing the litter but surely that would make it worse because its something shes not used to....when she messes I don't react at all I just ignore her. When I do see her doing it in her tray she gets a reward like a tiny bit of cheese.0
