Apparent credit card debt I new nothing about

Hi All,

I recently recieved a letter from a credit card collection agency about an aparent debt of over £800. This aparent debt was with a Sainsbury's card which was paid off and closed in 2004 via a free balance transfer to an HSBC card which I have recently closed down. It seams that the only possible reason for this is the acrument of debt from a charge for going over the limit. However I have never been informed of this. I am also having trouble getting proof of to whom the balance transfer was paid to from HSBC. I am trying to get proof of the debt but that seams to be slow in coming to me.

Any advice would be very welcome.

    Hi Dougy

If its only now you heard of this, I would try to get as much info as possible, a SAR maybe a good idea, they have 40 days to comply with this request, they should supply everything they hold on you on the account.

Not sure how these issues work and hopefully someone else will post up to help you here, an SAR template would be useful, however there is a charge of £10 postal order or cheque payment for this request, it maybe useful and help your case.

Good luck, if you require a template for this matter, it may be a good idea to post up separate for this on here.;)

Use Martin's SAR request letter here..

  • I have put together that letter and managed to get HSBC to agree to send me proof of the payment if I request it in written form.

    Many thanks for that all,

I'll add to the post when something happens.
