    Plus m & S cakes taste nice :)

What are you going to do with the tiara? Could you get away with returning it/ selling it on ebay to get one in keeping with the colour theme? Perhaps you could point out you had taken on board her advice about the importance of colour so had tried to get one as beautiful as the one she got in a matching colour so it wouldn't clash and thank her for her advice...

I've decided to go for an M&S cake (probably one of the ones you have to order), having been quoted around £450 by local cake makers. It might involve a bit of sorting out on the morning of the wedding to assemble and personalise it, but - for me - it's not worth the extra cost to have a bespoke cake made and delivered. Plus the M&S cake that I tried was delicious and no one would know it was from a supermarket. Also, people are usually so full by the time the cake is served that they don't really eat / appreciate it anyway.

I find it hard to keep my mouth shut when people comment on why dont I just pay for a baker to do it, why dont you just buy them already made up (favour boxes which I am very proud of) I am also getting an m&s cake and decorating with butterflys :j I could aso pay for it but we are MSE's after all and can do just as good a job :p

Thankyou everyone for being so supportive, was just so annoyed last night. As my friend at work said Lilac/purple is my colour (hence the name) and lilac suits most people.
The cake will be lovely, I'm not paying 4 times that for someone else to do it. Tis a shame about the tiara but she bought it about 4 yrs ago when we spoke about getting married initially so cant take it back (briefly mentioned a red dress I liked). Will ask her if she want's it back.
Thanks again everyone, not the last wobble I'm sure lol.

Thankyou . It's not just me that is an odd thing to say isn't it.

It's definitely not just you, that is a very strange thing to say! It sounds like she is a very bitter and jealous lady, which is so sad when she is the only Grandma that your DD has! It is totally right that you would want to honour your Mum by naming your DD after her and honouring her at the wedding using little ways that mean a lot to you! After all it is the only way you and your family can be close to her, unlike you mil 2b!

thanks gill, can you imagine that being the 1st thing that comes into someones head when told their beautiful grandaughters name, for 1. theres no competition & 2 if there was the fact that you get to actually meet your grandaughter means you have won big style!!!!
I can't even bring myself to say anything to her about it, I think it's 1 of those things that would just explode. and it's her with the problem not me.
    Thankyou for being so sweet.
