AAAArrrggghhh!
Ok apologies in advance if this turns into a moan. Basically had mil 2b over today, we were discussing the cake I showed her the M&S tiers one and told her I planned to stack the 3 tiers stick on a few sugarcraft butterflies with icing and perhaps a topper or some flowers on top. Well basically sheis saying getting the cakes from Markies will be too much hassle for me, when will I have the time to sort the cake out? The icing will break& crack when I try and get the cakes off the board (basically look crap I think). Then I will have to put it together etc etc. Too much trouble just before the wedding! Then get it to the venue in 1 piece.
I'm not sure but I don't think it will be too much trouble and I like doing things like that. Just not sure if I need to put anything in between to stop it sinking into itself hoping as it's all sponge I won’t.
Oh then there’s the dress colour it is too pale & will make me look washed out!!! Just as well I didn’t show he a pic of the dress or she would have said something to try and put me off that too I just know it. Apparently when I tried on a wedding dress (over 4 bloomin years ago) it was too pale and made me look ill. Now this was when I was out shopping with her, remember very little apart from the shop was very dark/cramped and I must’ve been pregnant so add it all up I probably was a bit off colour!!! I think the dress I tried on all those years ago was an ivory or white the colour I'm going for is a pale lilac.
Oh and she got me a lovely tiara, it is lovely but it's gold and red, I always wear white metal and she knows I love purple.

Hugs not the kind of thing you need pre wedding. Ref cake could you afford a trial run? What you suggest sounds like a good idea so if you are confident dont let her get to you including the dress.:jMay 2013 new beginnings:j0

Thank you I won't I've just had a day of it and needed to get it off my chest, Thanks honey. Yes I might just buy a small tier see how it goes but I think the cakes are fondant rather than royal icing so shouldn't be too difficult to detatch from the cake board.Keeping_Positive wrote: »Hugs not the kind of thing you need pre wedding. Might be a bit of resentment I've probably never gotten over when the 1st thing she said to her son when he told her our dd's name (her middle name is my dead mums name) " How can I compete with a dead grandmother?"Booo!!!0 -
M&S actually sell the dowels to put between the cakes to prop them up, they're usually on the shelf next to where the cakes are... If lilac is your theme then I'd get some lengths of lilac ribbon to put around the bottom of the cake to hide where they're sat on the next tier down... It would also hide if the icing cracked... But I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue anyway, loads of people have done the same with the M&S cakes and I've not heard a disater story yet!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Big hugs Violetta. Not what you need pre wedding but some people can't help themselves! I'm sure the cake will be fine! This is what I'm planning on doing with the dowels. Don't let her knock you, you sound as though you have it all sussed out and she's just trying to stick her nose in. Ignore her!
I think I'd have a moan about her after what she said about your DD's name.

Okay....take a big breath........
Now put her comments out of your mind!!!
Just you carry on doing things the way you want to - I have only heard good things about M&S cakes, that is why so many of us are talking about buying them. I'm sure your decoration will be beautiful. (Unless of course MIL is offering to buy a cake for you?;))
And whatever you do...DON'T show her a pic of your dress!!:rotfl:

She did offer to buy a cake for me , bit it was £230 , we could find that money if we really wanted to but I just couldn't justify spending that for what it was, and if I won't I can't expect someone else to iykwim.
I wonder if it's the butterfly thing, daft I know but there is a link to my mum with the butterfly.
Doesn't matter anyway, I think my idea sounds nice, and so does my oh.Booo!!!0 -
You just get on and do things your way, just look as if you listening to her when shes talking nonsense, then when your out of her way shake youself of and ignore her.
I think pale lilac sounds lovely and its suits lots of skin tones. As for the cake, i will only be having an M&S one, like so many others, my reason is I dont want to spend a fortune on something that is going to get eaten so quickly.
