  • Hi Bluebird

If you need anyone to talk to about autism/aspergers feel free to pm me. We have a gorgeous 5 year old boy who was diagnosed as Autistic when he was 3. The diagnosis took months in a specialist nursery and even though we knew deep down what the diagnosis would be it was still hard reading those words "**** is a little boy with autism"

The last 2 years have been a nightmare in terms of fighting for help and support in and out of school. We finally have the school issues sorted - he is high functioning verbal and in mainstream school. Home is a different manner, he is up till at least midnight everynight, later sometimes.
He can become violent, myself and his younger brother have the scars to prove it, the worst being when he bit his young brother face under his eye, so hard it was bleeding and had it been any higher he may have lost his sight  All because his brother stood in the way of the TV
He has many routines and we are used to them now, last night we took hom to KFC and he spent all his time counting the smarties on the avalance ice cream in the window ;).

The biggest part of our struggle is the views and opinions of others due to the invisible disability, luckly our son doesnt care. We have had comments and stares, esp when we use disabled parking bays and when he uses his disability stroller.

But I wouldnt swap him for the world, he is also very funny (literal sense of humour) we hold our head high let him continue his meltdown, knowing full well interception will escalate the problem.

We get highest care rate for him at the moment, mainly due to our noctural sons lifestyle, we have not yet got mobility, but we just due our renewal so who knows!

Use the National Autistic website for help filing out forms, they have been invaluable.
