The quickest way for a parent to get a child's attention is to sit down and look comfortable.

We've used the Ibis in Boulogne (there are two, we used the one just outside the old town) Fairly basic, but OK.
Some good Restaurants just inside the old town but in the modern city centre you can't go wrong for food.
IBIS web site :

Someone else has mentioned Villages Chain, but there isn't one in Boulogne. There are some within about 90 mins.

Village have a hotel jsut on the ourskirts of Calais, we have stayed several times, it is just off the motorway at junction 44 (I think) approx 20 minutes from Bolougne, breakfast is 4e I think and you can have as much as you can eat.

We've stayed in the Etap a few times; cheaper than the Ibis I think, & OK for an overnight stay.
There are 2 Etaps in Boulogne - one at Outreau near the LeClerc, & the other behind the Ibis on the road to the railway station. This latter one is the one we've been to; it's in walking distance of the centre & has a car park.
