It is recommended you buy a new matress for each baby... But I feel this is more aimed at people who use the same equipment for each of their own children so they spend a few years in storage... The swinging crib we're being given has been in storage for a couple of years so I'll be replacing the matress... The cotbed we will use after the crib was used up until November by my Daughter, I've washed the mattress cover but won't be replacing it...
Saying that though, Moses matresses are about a fiver on eBay... Depends how much you want to pay for piece of mind....A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

thanks guys0 -
I borrowed a basket with my first and although it came with a mattress I bought a new one (for about £30 in babies r us if I remember). I had a brand new one given to me the second time so I didn't have to. Tbh, I wouldn't want to sleep on a second hand mattress, particularly one that's seen urine and vomit all over it, so it's a no brainer for me.
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
The one I had was smelling a bit musty/damp so I just put the mattress in the washing machine and dried it on the line for a few days and its come up lovely. It is being used with a 3rd child but all mine so I know where its been!0

Hope this link works I'm not very good at them...
It outlines evidence that re-use of cot mattresses is linked with cot death.
The theory is that fungus breeds in urine and vomit stains and this causes the foam to relase toxic chemicals.
It's a small risk but I don't think it's worth chancing it..... so new matress.
