    Some do and some don't.

I know Capital One and Vanquis don't undertake credit searches.

They just search fraud prevention agencies.

No they do not. Unless your adding on Bin laden it might raise an eyebrown or 2 and get looked into a bit more.:P

You can add on whoever you like to the account it has no bearing as long as over 18.

Credit card is your sole responsibility only search carried out would be on yourself when you opened acc/credit limit increase ect.

Not in my experience, however the OH is starting to get sick of the cards they're having to hold while I try to get the best deals (last comment from them on the new card was "now tell me which order I need to try using them again...?" I'm dreading the cut-off date for the current favourite which will depend on either hitting the limit or the 9 month 0% expiration date...)

I'm intregued - which actually *do* perform a credit search on a second card holder, (or a repeat search on the primary holder) in your experience?

Since any debt incurred is the sole responsibility of the primary card holder, regardless of secondary, tertiary etc holders, what cause do they have to perform a further search?

I wonder that myself - but Cap One did themselves out of a customer with me because they insisted on id checks for my additional card holder and insisted on documents for her which we couldn't produce (she was a recent foreign national arrival), when we finally did produce them - they continued to insist we hadn't.

I finally wrote them a very very annoyed letter and got one back telling me that the letter containing the documentation must have been lost, despite acknowledging two lines earlier that the letter containing those documents was received and responded to properly (which I said wasn't the case!) and the fact they sent the documents back to me with a complements slip.

They never, from what we can tell, did a credit check on her - but they were insisting on id checks.

They also now put on a financial link with the CRA's so if one is searched the other persons record comes up too, but as the principle cardholder you are fully liable for all of the debt.

I am not 100% sure that is true.

I have 5 or more additional cards from my OH and am not financially linked to her
