Roadside breakdown recovery.

Being the proud new owner of my little BB TRUC :D I have sorted out the insurance and waiting for the certificate so that I can get the road tax sorted. When I was buying the insurance, they were trying to push me to get the road side cover, but I didn't feel I knew enough about what I 'needed' and what I 'should' have.

What 'should' I have and is there somewhere to help with more details. I won't be driving far at first because I am still a learner (well, getting back to it after 10 years!) and am still to take my test. Do I actually 'need' any breakdown recovery right now? And what is the best option for getting any problems sorted out there and then on the road side, rather then having to pay out a lot later? Does that make sense? Is there like a one off fee covering all eventualy problems?

I have checked on the AA site and got a quote of £317:eek: Oh, no £259 I think with the online discount.

Thanks in advance icon7.gif

There are also other considerations too .... personal or vehicle cover?
    ROadside, Home Start, or Onward?

Check out the different websites (AA, RAC etc.) to see which type of cover most suits you.

Having posted earlier we had cause to use Autoaid for the first time this evening. My wife's car wouldn't start due to a flat battery. It's one of those cars that you can't even push if the engine isn't running.
Guy turned up in about 25mins, got everything working and said they would bill them directly. Great result!

What's one of them and where did you get it from?

I think they were trying to get you buy the breakdown cover so that the company and employee will get extra bonus/commission from the sale of these products.

Didn't the company from where you bought your vehicle offer 1 year breakdown service or something? I can't say whether or not you "should have" breakdown recovery. However what I can say is it may depend on a few factors such as the reliability of the vehicle, if you know a local mechanic/garage owner who will tow you back, I would say the distance your travelling but you said your not going far as your a learner. Again knowing a local garage owner/mechanic who will tow you back may help you save some money on if you do breakdown and you don't have breakdown recovery. Also if you take out a breakdown service, see if they are available through cashback sites as you could save more money. :)
