West London - Perivale?

Hi all,
Myself and my boyfriend are looking to buy a place in the next year or so, and are looking for inspiration on locations. We currently live near Chiswick and so cannot afford to buy there, but have been looking nearby in Brentford which is more affordable (but too noisy from the planes) and have now ventured out to Perivale which seems to be affordable (for us) and nice? Does anyone live there and could recommend (or not!) the area? From our walks around so far it seems a nice place to be.
Does anyone have any other suggestions of places to buy? We are ideally wanting to stay West/North West as we have folks out in the Midlands so easy access to the M40 is handy, looking for a 2+ bed house, with a garden and off street parking if possible, in the price range of £200-£250k. Also currently bike to work so staying as close in as possible will mean we can still do that, Perivale is probably just about bikeable for us, but maybe a bit too far (we need to get to Hammersmith and Westminster).
Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give, London is such a big place and it is hard to know where to start looking!

Just go the whole hog and come up here, the other end of the M40.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Have you thought about Barnes/ Putney? (FYI- SW13/SW15)
I know it's in the dreaded south, but there's a lot of parks etc around and in my search for a property I have found that it helps to be as expansive as possible in terms of area.
I think these areas will be cycle-able for you.0 -
The other end of the M40 would certainly keep us fit cycle wise!
I would love to be able to afford a 2 bed house in Barnes or Putney, unfortunately we cannot :-(0 -

We did actually take a bike ride down to those areas, the first one scared us a lot, but the other two seemed like nice areas, they are already in my saved search on Rightmove waiting to see if any of them fall low enough for us to start considering them.
Thanks for the tips!0 -
Ha well fair enough. I take it 'the lennox' is not for the faint hearted?
If your budget extends to 250k, I would be surprised if these sellers haven't been told to expect offers at that level now that their prices have dropped to within 30k of the SDLT 3% threshold. Though I can see that they have both dropped substantially, you never know.
What's the old adage? If you're not embarrassed by your first offer, it's too high...0 -

perivale not the nicest place to live but it does have good transport links
central line train buses to ealing and hanger lane on your door step.
for a 3 bed i would be offering south of 215k keep offering till you find one who will deal.0 -
I lived in Perivale for 20 yrs and it was lovely, its not so nice as it used to be but I still live 10 mins away and its not that bad. I would have no problem moving back there.. as someone else says it has great transport links , near A40 and A406 you have Horsenden Hill a short walk and of course the Grand Union Canal runs right through the Area.. The Borough of Ealing also froze its Council Tax this year another plus.. It has a Tesco in the Old Hoover building , a library and a small shopping area... I would look preferably at the Horsenden Hill end of the area away from the shops... its much quieter...
EDIT: Just wanted to say that IMO its much nicer than Brentford where you had looked...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Thanks for your responses, good to hear from people who have actually live there, thanks.
wii_man1 why do you say it is not the nicest of places to live? Just intruiged to know what you didn't like about it.
tanith is it possible to say why it has got worse recently? Currently live in Ealing borough so already paying my taxes to them. We have also been looking the Medway Village area which seems quiet? We think it is nicer than Brentford so far, bigger houses, bigger gardens and garages! Am thinking perhaps we should go and rent there for 6 months first to give us a better feel for the area.
Thanks for responding, really useful :-)0
