Problems with a Nissan Micra "05 immobiliser?
Left the car for over a month so disconnected the battery as per the manual. When I went to start the car it was totally dead. Towed to the garage, mechanic says it's the keys - they have lost the "code" & only a Nissan dealer can re-program (closest one is in Glasgow!) ! Is this true? Can the keys be programmed w/o the car (on Bute so would save on a "HUGE" tow" bill) or do locksmiths have this ability? Anyone know about this and/or have any advice?
Since I travel & the car will be left for long periods, I'm concerned that this will happen each time I leave & return and/ or whilst on a journey. Just bought the car at the end of last June. The battery was fine once reconnected.

Check the manual. If the above were true then you could expect it to happen any time you disconnected the battery, which doesn't sound like a good design.
Some cars have a sequence of events in which you can resync the keys to the car, yours may be the same. You may require a master key of some description.
Do also check that (if present) the battery in the key is working.0 -
i had this happen to a couple of cars and the only way to fix this is a rip to the dealer. (which did cost a bit). it might be worthwhile keeping the battery connected and try starting it once a week to keep the batt topped up0

Have pretty much narrowed it down to the code being lost. According, to the dealer where the car was bought, the battery being disconnected & losing the code is just a coincidence.
Been doing alot of research on this & at this point, I see this as a scam developed by the manufacturers/ dealers to make heaps of cash.0 -
Think this is too specialised for a general forum Peachie...maybe ask the question on a specific Nissan forum?0

It isn't necessarily something that will require the attention of a dealer. I suggest you ring a few auto electricians.0

If you're going to leave a car for so long it sounds like you need a CTEK battery charger which charges and maintains a charge:
