I had an item for sale on gumtree, and had an email from above..
After a few disconnected calls (always answered by a man who just hung up), and rejected texts, I finally got another email offering way over the odds for said item, and asking for my bank details to make payment.
yeah right! be careful when selling stuff, especially when the 'buyers' make it hard to get in contact..
the mobile seems to be a real number, but whether its UK based is another thing, as each attempt to send a text just got knocked back, with sytem message requesting i check the number..

This is a frequent scam where the buyer sends you much much more than it's worth and then say they made a mistake/need to pay their shipper and ask you to wire the money back via Western Union or whatever...money's untraceable...cheque or whatever was paid to you fails...you lose item and money.
Google "Nigerian overpayment scam" for more details.
I always get loads when advertising on Gumtree, just delete them especially if they mention "item" and do not refer to what you're selling directly.0 -
