I just have my first advertising sales job, as I am self-employed as a virtual p.a./fairy godmother, lifestyle manager I will turn my hand to anything. Made a whole load of calls and there is some interest but none yet has said 'yes'.
How many calls do you have to make to get one sale?
Will I just have to expect this to be soul-destroying! LOL;)

Hey there - hope ur sitting down!!!
When you say have made loads of calls how many is loads?????
I have worked in call centres and telemarketing places for years and call rates vary greatly - from approx 80 - 140 calls per day!!!!!!!
And when we were appointment setting we were targeted at 2 appointments per day - so 2 solid appointments out of approx 100 calls
It is V hard and sometimes quite unrewarding!!!!! And extra h ard if your doing it on your own and not in a team environment.
My advice is to set urself a target of how many calls to do - are you making sure your saying the right things - what sort of script have you put in place for yourself - not to read parrot fashion - but as a guide to make sure you have good info to say at the right times
Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear..... good luck!

Hi Sarah Saver
Usually about one in a hundred calls
percentage wise,
keep at it , you will succeed, no I `m not a in yer face motivator!
but have been in telesales for 5 years, not your everyday products though0 -
Great advice folks, thanks! One or 2 in 100 makes me feel a whole lot better! It's for an editor of a magazine who asked me to do the job because he didn't like doing it himself! It's a very specialised publication so in theory it should be easier than selling regular things. HA HA HA!;) I will let you know how I get on by the end of the week!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Agreed that the hit rate per cold call is rarely better than 3%.
Many of those who said they were interested c/would have been ......
(a) To polite/embarrassed to say they weren't
(b) Not the person who makes the decisions
(c) Makes the decisions, but spending requires sanction by someone else
(d) Would say anything to make you go away and then refuse to take any further calls
I assume you are targetting your calls at those who are likely to have a need i.e. need to buy advertising? And that you have identified the person who makes decisions about who to spend money on and has the authority to give the go ahead?
Neither of these result in guaranteed sales, but should help to weed out those you don't need to speak toWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Just be grateful you weren't the poor lady who phoned to try and sell me some more stationery this morning. She made the mistake of asking me how I was, so I told her ... and she agreed that the best thing she could do was go away and leave me in peace for today. :rotfl:
BTW, I was perfectly polite, just full of cold and sore throat and trying to catch up from a day off sick yesterday! The very LAST thing on my mind was the stationery cupboard!
Good luck!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
This is very specific so at least they are likely to be interested in advertising their 'niche' products and services in a highly specialised publication, so it's not totally cold, if you see what I mean!
I let someone talk for ages the other day because they were from the chamber of commerce and they were trying to sell me advertising space without mentioning money/selling/cost at all which actually got on my nerves quite a bit;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Actually, I think next time they call I shall just say please don't keep calling me, I know where you are, when I want to buy something I shall phone you and ask for a price as long as I don't hear from you before then! :rotfl: I know it's her job, and it's one I'd hate, but they really are going to lose my business altogether because I really don't NEED someone hassling me every week!Signature removed for peace of mind0
