Has there been any murmurs or rumours about MS scrapping this annual Gold Membership charge?

Both Sony and Nintendo offer a online service but free of charge.

There's always a rumour going around that it's going to happen, but it's never going to happen on the 360 platform.

XBL offers a significantly better experience than both of those offerings; unfortunately it does come with the price that works out at less than 10p a day.

I agree; it's a much better service than either Sony or Nintendo's offerings. People seem more than happy to pay the extra for it, so I can't imagine what possible reason Microsoft could have for scrapping the cost of it.

I guess perhaps if they really needed to shift lots of Xboxes it might make sense, but the Xbox is selling very well, and giving away just the first year for free would probably have much the same effect.

I cant see ms scrapping the fee, if the fee goes then i can see the quality of xbox LIVE going down hill, im happy paying for a subscription of £30 for 13 months(i bought a 12+1 month subscription)

Is it true Xbox live is full of smack talking children? Or is it over exagerated?

Depends what zone you frequent, but in any case that's what the mute function is for..

Everything on XBL is tame compared to how CS was back when it was the leader in online gaming.

i have experienced kids talking like theyre mr big etc but you can mute them, its better if your in a party with friends as you can create a private room and the only people invited are the ones who you invite and you can talk to each other whilst playing the game

I do look back fondly on the torrents of "OMG AIMBOT" that used to get thrown my way, it was the standard response from anyone being taken out with an iota of skill.
