Problems feeding my 6 month baby

Mrs Cheggers is going mad our 6 month old baby does not take his milk well, baby cheggers struggles to take more than 4oz in feed, constantly pulls away from the bottle and wakes 2 or 3 times in the night still.

We have tried the little fella on solids, but he really needs his milk but he does not like and never has really liked milk. He did seem to enjoy solid foods but they seem to be bunging up and he's seems to always be trying to have a p** but can not seem to go.

The Drs and health visiters dont seem to be able to help us out and other very little good advise.

:j Once babies are 6 months you can usually start cutting down on the milk feeds however you should to make sure baby cheggers still gets at least 1 pint/600ml a day. Babies get hungrier for solids at this point so it maybe that you need to start offering more food and less milk.
My daughter was never keen on milk and had more or less dropped it altogether by the time she was a year old though I sneak it in in cereals, custard, yoghurt, fromage frais, puddings etc. My son on the other hand at 19 months still needs a beaker of milk first thing in the morning before he's ready for the day - rather like me with my cuppa! :rotfl:
When you offer food try offering water or fruit juice with it - orange juice is very good for bunged up babies.
Between 6-9 mths my 2 were having a bottle of milk followed by brekkie around 7am, lunch @12, milk @ 2.30-3pm, dinner @ 6pm, and a last bottle of milk @ 7pm.
In order to stop the night bottles we gave a last one at about 10pm then slowly watered down the one we were giving during the night until they didn't bother waking for it because they didn't want water. Then we gradually did this with the 10pm one and they slept through.
Are the teats on the bottle big enough? Could that be why he's struggling to get more milk?
I hope all this waffling helps - unfortunatly this is only my experience so I'm not sure what others do.

baby cheggers pulls away from the bottle, and goes all rigid and throws his head about like mad. I just wish the little lad would take milk

Ooh poor you, and poor baby cheggers !

If it is any consolation please think of me in the depths of Wales with matching 6 month old - also dancing through the night.

I am not a health professionnal but some of the stuff that you mentioned rings a bell with me. My health visitor has made the following suggestions.

    1) size of bottle hole - reviewing this did help.
    2) type of milk( i tried about 3 before finding the one that was most acceptable to DD) . Not all milks are the same. Also tried expensive option of ready made (rather than powdered milk). This seemed to releive the constipation bit. I now use ready made milk for last feed at night (hopefully)
    3) Prune juice for constipation. Tin of prunes in juice. You eat prunes, freeze juice in ice cube trays and use a small syringe to give orally.
    4) Baby lactose intolerant - this is ongoing with me - worth considering with Dr or HVisitor.
    5) Tongue tie (if tonge extended is it round or v shaped?) this can make feeding - and solids harder.
    6) Colicy type. Colic should finish normally by 3 months but with agreement with HVisitor I am continuing to use Dentinox colic remedy (NOT infacol), which brings up wind better, and aids digestion. This has worked best of all - but check with your Dr or HV first

Only other suggestion for partner rather than baby cheggers is deep bath, loads of bubbles (in bath and wineglass) and a set of earplugs and leave baby cheggers with you for the night and not to feel guilty.

They will all get there in the end. Sorry for the ramble - sleep deprivation !

Neither of my daughters would drink any kind of formula milk. I tried every sort I could lay my hands on including the flavoured ones. Then one day out of desperation I tried her on ordinary full fat cows milk and she drank the whole lot. So after that I just kept her on that. Then when DD2 was born I just put her straight onto cows milk after breastfeeding at about 7 months. My health visitor had a fit but neither of them ever had any ill effects and they are 11 and almost 9 now.

I've heard this before - a friend, who is a childrens nurse, fed her son on ready-made formula exclusively. Apparently if you're making up your formula feed in a hard water area that can contribute to constipation.
