norton anti virus

hi folks
i was over in pc world and i noticed that they had norton internet suite 2005for £14.99
now the (probably) dumb question ....
i assume that the only difference between this an the 06 version is tweeks to the interface and that they will both give the same level of protection with upgrades available for the rest of the year .... is this correct ??
it just that mine is due renewal and this is cheaper than upgrading

Hi, 6 months free Norton with the Google Pack, HERE. You just select the elements of the Pack that you want, but I can recommend Google Earth as well, it's cool! :cool:

What's cheaper still is ditching Norton all together and replacing it with free firewall, AV, anti-spyware, anti-adware and hosts guard.

How's that for a good plan? That's what I did several years ago and I haven't looked back. Hasn't cost me a penny.

Mind you, removing Norton fully was a headache but that's another story.....

I have an alternative to Sygate plus ....

IE-Spypad
SpywareBlaster
SpywareGuard
Spybot "resident" Tea Timer (guess you got that too).

First thing the Norton package I had pre-installed on my Dell laptop did was stop all internet access and then complain about how it couldn't access the internet to download it's updates.

I use free software for normal use:
Opera for browser - then don't have to worry about the spyware thing too much (at all)
Windows SP2 built in firewall (router does the rest as it has hardware firewall built in)
Avast anti virus - used to use AVG but found Avast was better, faster and has smaller requirements on system
Pegasus for Email (along with the Opera email client)
Spampal for email filtering
Grabbit for newsgroup access
