Hi
i recently bought a laptop on ebay
the seller had it advertised as a 20gb harddrive
but when i goty it it was a 2gb
+
external cd rom is not part of the laptop but its a cheap internal cdrom with a usb cabel (no caddy)
i had specified i wanted it (£10 extra) if it was part of the laptop (dell latitude)
now i contacted the seller but no reply as yet
i would be happy with a refound of a few quid
any help?

I would suggest you contact the seller by phone straight away - get his contact details from EBay. Decide how you want to sort it out and put this to the seller - i.e. do you want a full refund or a partial refund. Point out that the item is not as advertised and therefore breaks EBay rules.
If the seller messes you around or you can't get hold of them within a reasonable time, then if you paid by Paypal you should be able to initiate a chargeback to get your money back, as the goods are clearly not as advertised. Also put a supporting complaint into EBay at the same time to strengthen your case.
You need to act as soon as possible, as there is a limited time in which you can do a Paypal chargeback. Some sellers will send you shoddy goods and then mess you around to play for time - the idea being that you run out of time to complain. Don't let them do this.
If you paid by cheque or P.O. then the situation is more difficult as you have less protection than using Paypal. I would block the cheque if still possible.0 -
I agree with what VH says, in the first instance pull the contact details and give the seller a call, he may be willing to agree to a compromise.
If you are nearing 30 days after purchase then also start a chargeback with paypal as well just to protect yourself as once you get past the 30 days there is no way you can start this process.
It is difficult to get money back where the item is not as described, however, it is always worth a try with paypal, you need to file a claim on the basis that the goods received were not as advertised. make sure you keep all the e mails and take a screen grab of the auction just in case it disappears.
Good luck
