Hi folks,
I'm thinking of buying a well loved little car that was first regestered in 1986 from an auction. My dad's just said that if its over 20 years old then it will be tax exempt - is this true?? and if so does that automatically happen or do you have to regester for it or something??
Many thanks in advance for your help
Cheers

No you will still have to pay VED. The cut was 1974. My ex father in law has an old stag which just missed the cut of by a couple of months.
Correction cut of was 1 January 1973.0 -

To be completely accurate the vehicle has to have been manufactured before 1 Jan 1973. If it was built before but first registered after then it is exempt.
The Labour government abolished the previous rolling 25 year threshold when they were elected in 1997.:o0 -
