strange email response to E& M ad

looking for some advice please. we placed our car for sale in exchange and mart yesterday. Then got an email saying:

'Good Day,
I have been watching out for this exact vehicle on behalf of my client,I figured out your advert as the most suitable.Pls let me know if £9250 is least price you'll go for and where to direct the Certified cheque for payment ASAP.Thanks.

Best Regards,

P.S.A RECENT PICX AND VEHICLE CONDITION WOULD ALSO BE REQUIRED.'

This seems dodgy to me, surely if they were interersted they would ask to inspect the car, not for an address for payment.
Does anyone know if this is a scam? We have not replied yet.

Sounds like one that uually runs through ebay.

They tell you that they owe the third party some money, and to make life easier, they'll send you a cheque for the car value + the money they owe the other person. You are then asked to forward the difference on to the 3 rd party.

The problem is, if you fall for it, you get the money, the person picks the car up and you pay out the money to the 3rdparty. Its then that you find the cheque has a problem, but by then your minus car and cash.

Tell them 'cash only' and see if they are still interested. Say you don't accept cheques after hearing about a scam ... describe the scam they are pulling.

I contact a seller about a car, only to find out the car was in italy and he wanted me to send £1.5k via Western Union to 'anobody's name' but I had to send him the receipt for the transaction. Then he would return to the UK with the car for me to view  Ohhhh, the fun I had playing with him :rotfl:

one normally gets loads of these from E&M and autotrader adverts, along with phone calls saying the same. Just ignore it, it really isnt worth your time engaging them in conversation. Its swine like this that make people sell to dealers for less, it's such a pain selling privately!
