help with WTC hours worked

Hi, am currently claiming CTC as seperated from hubby with 2 children 7/3, am not entitled to claim WTC as do not work 16hours per week (contracted 5 but topped up to 10 with OT), am entitled to £7pw IS which chose not to claim as then restricted overtime at work etc. However have thought about doing some ironing and cleaning for a friend, this would bump up my worked hours to 17, however do they work out 16 hours pro rata or monthly and would i also have to register as self employed and pay tax (not a prob doing this) to be able to show hours i am working?

the hours worked are based on weekly amounts and an average taken over any 4 consecutive weeks.
you need to register as self employed, unless your friend is a company, and get a UTR number from your local tax office. you can still claim WTC without this as long as it is pending.
as soon as you start working 16 hours a week ring the helpline to report the change in circumstances as it can only be backdated for a maximum of 3 months.
good luck and hope that answers your question0
