    erm

Why not just use your 5.1 AS a 2.1?

Does it HAVE to have a sub?

If not id suggest shopping at richer sounds for an AZUR amp and DIAMOND speakers

If it DOES then you might consider this ~
    http://whathifi.com/Review/Samsung-HT-X200/
(Dont just buy ANY Samsung by the way, as one is so bad with the sub that people have thrown them away!)

To throw a curveball you might even consider a one box solutiion ~
    http://whathifi.com/Review/Yamaha-YSP-600/

To sum them up ~ the amp and speakers will sound best overall
The yamaha is the best all in one solution (If a little bass light), to replace a 5.1
The Samsung is made for movies (But as you asked for a sub it wont sound half as good for music and sheer detail)

The other option is to buy 2nd hand off ebay - you can get some SERIOUS bargains off there. For example ~ I bought a 1k 7.1 denon amp for 200 quid which is still going strong today (Although ive just ordered a pre-amp to replace it)

Of course you might even want to use the speakers you have now (I cant comment as ive no clue what you have)

Any questions and ill do my best :p
