Beeping Dell Inspiron 6000 adapter

Hi, im currently having problems with my adapter for my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. When I plug it in its fine, green light comes on, but as soon as I plug it into the laptop the light goes out and it emits a high pitched beep, it used to be continuous but now it is intermittent. Its a new adapter of only a few months and my laptop is now out of battery so I am unable to use it to diagnose what is wrong, any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

i had exactly this with an inspiron charger (no light and beeping) found if i wiggled the output lead for a while, the light would come back on.
if i then kept it still, all was ok so i put it down to a loose wire.
fortunately had 1 month to go on the warranty, so dell replaced it. no problems since.
i did look on ebay and there are plenty or dell chargers, but get the right type
