Sujjestions for best mini systems/CD players pleeeese!

Hi Everyone,
I am looking to buy a decent CD player/mini system,anything upto £400.
The most important thing is the sound,so decent speakers and the means to add additional base box is a must,I'm not sure what are the best models out there on the market at the momment so if anyone could sujjest which one would be the best to go for I would be extremly grateful! :D
Many many thanx

Unless things have changed recently, most of the "all-in-one" mini systems are a fairly poor compromise - usually let down by the speakers.

In general you'll get better results from a separates-based system, where you can choose the speakers that you like the sound of, rather than the ones that are bundled in.

If you take a look at the Richer Sounds website, they have a lot of good stuff at reasonable prices, and you often get good advice in their shops (though they will always try to get you to spend more...), so go to your local shop and have a listen. They sell some complete systems, and also mini-systems from Onkyo and Teac, which are both highly regarded makes.

There shouldn't be a problem connecting a subwoofer (bass box) at a later date, as many can now simply connect to the speaker outputs rather than needing their own pre-out.
