fake goods

Hi I hope someone can answer this question. I bought a pair of Uggs from ebay that were advertised as genuine deckers uggs. When they arrived they do not seem authentic. I paid via paypal using a credit card. I want to take them to trading standards and have heard that they will check them and provide me with proof that they are fakes and also confiscate them too. Does anyone know if this is the case as i am hoping to send the proof to paypal and get a refund? However, if they will just destroy them or not give me any proof then it does not seem worth the bother. Thanks for any help

I bought some fake Sennheiser earphones off eBay a while back. I contacted Senheisser directly, who advised that they were almost certainly fake, so I emailed the vendor asking for a full refund (including postage both ways).

I got a defensive reply (i.e. the seller is just a middleman, and the earphones are genuine as far as he can tell, etc.). So I replied saying that I would pass his address to the police, Sennheiser and Trading Standards if I didn't get my money back. I got an immediate refund (and passed his address to Sennheiser anyway!)

So... I would contact the vendor directly and only go to PayPal if you don't get a response.

    Hope this helps...

By the way... what on earth are Uggs?!

Hi thanks for reply. Uggs are boots that a lot of people are obsessed with, expensive and a lot of fakes around. Unfortunately I dont have the address of the vendor and have heard paypal are useless unless you have proof goods are fakes thats why I was asking about trading standards. The company that makes these boots are called Deckers and will not assist in identifying counterfeit goods. They are a US company. Ta for your help

I haven't used eBay for a while, but I was able to get the vendor's address from their eBay profile (or maybe it was the emailed invoice). In any case, I would contact the seller by email (or via the "contact the seller" link in eBay) and ask for a refund.

I'm amazed that Deckers don't assist in identifying fakes - surely it's in their interest! Do the boots normally come with a manufacturer's guarantee? If so, maybe it would be worth saying that you are not satisfied with the quality and trying to claim a refund/replacement from Deckers. Then they will either have to honour the guarantee or say that they are fakes, in which case you can go to PayPal.

    Good luck!
  • You would actually be surprised how helpful PayPal is...

I purchased GHD's which turned out to be fake when I checked the serial number on the GHD website. I logged into PayPal, clicked on "Raise a dispute" (or something along those lines)..typed a description saying that the userguide had countless mistakes, that the user has said they were coming from the UK but when tracking on royal mail they were coming from china etc...PayPal investigated, requested I send them back to the sender and keep proof of postage..and I got a full refund!

Oh, and the straighteners finally got redelivered back to me due to an insufficient address!

I think paypal are very good at refunding if everything is legit, i purchased a 4ft shotgun cabinet from ebay, after a few weeks, i contacted the seller who said it was mislaid at the depot! (dont ask how u can mislay a 4ft cabinet) anyway, paypal refunded me no probs.
Same with a pair of trainers that didnt arrive, seller told me to get onto royal mail, said that was there job, got onto paypal, refund no probs.
Also im pretty sure if you buy something for say £50, and the seller didnt offer special delivery postage, and your item doesnt arrive, then the seller is at fault and paypal refund without question. (sorry for going off the topic a bit!)

You could also take them into a shop that sells real Uggs near you. You might feel a bit silly but if they are working with them all the time they should be familiar enough to make a judgement.

There is an ebay guide to spotting fakes as well, it won't let me post the link but if you google "ebay guides ugg boots" it comes up.

    Hope that helps.

Easy stuff Ugg boots the bain of my life, we see these things daily at work..

IF paypal cant help which sometimes they cant( if seller has closed acc)

Call up your bank advise them you have bought item on paypal and appears goods are fake "not as described" if you bough them on the understanding they were the real deal.

They will send you out form to complete asking for several pieces of information.

You will be expected to try resolve it with the merchant direct so if you have emails back and forward excellent.
You mentioned trading standards, if you can get a report from them confirming they are not the genuine article perfect.

Will get your money back no problems from your card provider should paypal be unable to assist.

    Good luck

I had the exact same trouble.

My requested refund was refused by seller who swore blind the were authentic (which is sad because they are not even "good" fakes!). I opened a paypal dispute and had to provide written prooft they were fake... I went to my local authorised UGG retailer and asked them to sign a pre-written letter. They were very kind and sympathetic to my plight.

I have faxed the details to Paypal and they are "reviewing the case". I am quite hopeful I will get a refund.

But the other day I decided to leave negative feedback for my seller, and surprise surprise she offered me a full refund if I retract the feedback. (also known as feedback exortation).

Try either way if you want your money back. Good luck, don't give up!!
