Car repair question - broke down again next day - should I pay?

I have a question about my car repair recently
I broke down with an engine management fault - left it at a garage and he said it was a wiring problem which he fixed - but it broke again the next day with the same problem - he said that he had just fiddled about with the wires a bit and that the problem didnt show up when he took it for a test drive.
I haven't paid the bill of £80 yet for that repair... taking it back to him isn't an option because it's 2hrs from home where I broke down.
Any advice about what I should do?
I think he does deserve some money because he had a look at the car etc... although he didnt fit any parts or fix it permenantly
I was actually surprised he let me pick up the car and go home without paying
any advice appreciated - thanks

yes he did attempt a repair if he spent an hour then offer him £20 for his timeI

Fixing intermittent electrical faults can only really be done on a time basis and the bill is the same whether the problems is fixed or not (assuming normal levels of competence at the garage)
If he spent £80 of time looking for the fault then he should be paid for itmichael1983!! wrote: »…….I was actually surprised he let me pick up the car and go home without paying……….
Only works if people pay their bills0 -
Agreed, the guy fixed your car to the best of his ability, he got you home I presume. Nobody can guarantee a permanent fix on a problem like that.
He trusted you to pay him, so I would just pay the bill in full.0 -
thanks for the advice everyone, i'm gonna pay him the money0
