Be warned! the page in my notebook is so stained I am having to guess at some of this!
Sift 3 1/2oz plain flour and 1/2 oz custard powder into a bowl. Add 1oz caster sugar and 3oz soft marge. Beat very well until soft & creamy. Use to pipe rounds, fingers, whirls & stars onto a greased baking tray. Bake at Gas 4 for about 15 mins. Transfer to a rack to cool as these will stick.
Variations: lemon: add 1tsp finely grated lemon rind
orange: add 1tsp finely grated orange rind & a drop of orange colouring
chocolate: Substitute 1/2 oz cocoa for 1/2 oz flour
decorate with icing or melted chocolate or sandwich with icing if you want.
You can also cook 5 or 6 of these on parchment on the turntable in the microwave. They took 1 1/2 mins in mine
I'm sure you can just splodge rather than piping.0 -
You have the bit for a shortbread recipe I use for DD and I when we're baking.
It's out of Cooking for Toddlers.
5oz Plain Flour
1oz Cornflour
2oz sugar
4oz butter/margarine
Put all the ingredients in food processor or a mini-food processor, until starts to come together, tip out knead together, roll out to 5mm and cut out with shaped cutters or just normal round ones. Sprinkle with sugar and bake at 200C for about 10 minutes or golden brown. Cool. Delicious with hot cup of tea.
