wireless broadband

Hi.new to all this so please forgive mistakes.
Currently we have orange wirless and talk broadband.we are nearly finished on a retention tarrif £60 for the year on their top package, not on our landline phone though as we have had it a long time and didnt need to back then.
We regulary get 7 meg speeds but also have very slow periods during busy times.
Question is we can put 6 wireless items plus 2 ethernet on our box, which isnt enough for us.
Whats our best option.does someone have routers with more capacity and good broadband. Is orange good and should we stick with them.is it possible to upgrade the router, easily ,?
What do you think, would like 8 ,at least, wireless access points.
thanks

You can have as many wireless connections as you like on a wireless router. There will be a practical limit but it is not 6.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • More ethernet ports can be purchased if thats what you want in 4/8/16/24/48 and higher units, called hubs and switches, Switches now being the norm.

Are you saying you have Orange and Talktalk ??

The invetel/orange one only allows 6.others advertise less.so i suppose the question is if you use a router not supplied with you b/band will it be easy to set up/work?

The invetel/orange one only allows 6.

Are you absolutely sure about that? The documentation does not say that. Have you tried to connect more devices?

Yes absolutley sure 100%.to connect something you have to put box in pairing mode.if you have six items on you have to enter set up for box and delete one from your approved list.6 only plus 2 ethernet.

OK, must be a peculiarity of the Livebox as most wireless routers will allow up to a total of 255 users to connect. Any of these routers here are suitable replacements if you want to replace the Livebox with a more conventional router. If you were to change your ISP, you would likely get a free wireless router provided.

Yes, they don't need to 'allow' it, it's your system to do as you wish with. It's a straight swap and you just need to enter the basic info in that you probably did when you set up before. Any ADSL router will work on an ADSL broadband service.
The only thing to beware is that Orange may not support it if it's not on their approved list. So if you do get a problem it's no good expecting their tech support to help. However in my experience with Orange that would probably be no great loss...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
