I think almost all ovens cook unevenly, to some degree - even my AGA!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

We had a double (1 small coventional, 1 large fan) oven and, like a lot of others I suspect, the fan open only saw action at Christmas and was an expensive storage cupboard for roasting dishes, etc. the other 364 days of the year. For just the two of us, the small top oven was more than adequate.
In terms of cost, it has to be my candidate for the No.1 most useless kitchen gadget.
PS. Oh, and the noise was like using an Airbus A380 as a barbeque!
:rotfl:
Yup, costs a bloomin' fortune in electric too. On sundays when I do a roast dinner, it uses half as much electric as the whole house does (we normally use 20 units a day, sundays it's 30 units. )
I long for a solid fuel range cooker. (Been lusting after the Esse Ironheart!)0 -
I hate the fact that you can't cook a decent whisked sponge in a fan oven either - I have to use the top oven and that is in the manufacturers booklet!
As for pizza I cook mine on the middle shelf at 180c and turn half way through cooking.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Nothing to do with pizza, just an opportunity to vent my hatred of my electric fan oven; symbolic of this modern world, all based on superficial appearances and hot air! Fit only for frozen Kiev and curly fries (or by the sounds of it not even that!).
.
How I yearn for comforting familiarity of my old Parkinson Cowan, the days of a comforting casserole in on regulo 3, a few jacket spuds around it and a nice rice pudding cooking slowly on the bottom shelf. Aah those were the days, my friend!
Sorry about that folks, feel much better now!0 -
I was so fed up with my Dual Fuel Range cooker I decided to buy a new one, but first went to John Lewis to discuss. There was nothing there that I liked but I mentioned to the salesman about the problem of my main fan oven burning everything at the back right corner and having had an engineer to fix it only to be told that this happens with most ovens. ( Well is certainly didn't with my last oven ). I have persevered, but love baking and obviously I shouldn't move a cake or open a door once it's in the oven. I have to make loaf cakes and only put them on one side, ridiculous. He told me that baking is really only supposed to be done in a normal oven as it would be cooking it more evenly and a fan doesn't cook the centre as well, which I didn't know. So just baked some cupcakes in my smaller side oven and perfect, so that's saved my £1,000 plus. Not sure what I'm going to do about the roast potatoes, I suppose just carry on moving them around.0

Thanks for drawing my attention to this old thread. I have also been thinking of changing my oven as it has never been satisfactory. I use a Panasonic combi oven most of the time for the 2 of us. I agree that my oven is mainly used as an expensive cupboard and only use it when cooking two pizzas together and then use it without the fan!
I also find that in both ovens I have to swap things from shelf to shelf half way through. A dangerous practice with hot dishes and it was totally unnecessary with previous gas ovensThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Please and Thank You are the magic words;)0 -
I also have a Penny combi, I I have used the oven on my cooker just twice in 4 yeas when the Penny went in for service. The rest of the time it's used to store baking tins.0

I do my cheese on toast under the grill! As for 250, that is too high?0
