    Assuming it did at least attempt to install

    Use THIS to remove the old traces

    Then use REVO to completely erradicate all traces of the latest java

    Run ccleaners main cleaner and registry cleaner

    Then try again (If this fails im struggling :p)

    Yes! Finally I have it solved! Thanks aliEnRIK, invaluable. Can't remember how I destroyed java in the first place, but it involved trying to install netbeans, the java SDK and eventually deleting the wrong folder while booting from linux. Altogether not too smart.
