Sumvision Cyclone Multimedia Player

Hi. I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago to use with my laptop which has Vista home basic on it. It's supposed to be plug and play but when it arrived and I hooked it up it initially said it couldn't find a driver (despite me having the disc in) and then installed a generic driver. The problem is that it is not being picked up by the computer at all - it just doesn't look as if there are any external devices connected. I tried in all 4 USB ports but no joy. Eventually I returned it to Maplin saying I thought there was a fault or maybe it wasn't Vista compatible but they've returned it to me saying that they've had it up and running with no problem! I still cannot get my machine to even see that it's there.....................any ideas please?
This is the device

Anyone? I've just discovered there is a Maplin's quite close to me - am I as well just calling in there with Lappy and new gadget and asking them to show me how they managed to get them working together? :p

Sounds to me like it should literally just plug in and work

Plug it in and goto DEVICE MANAGER

Uninstall the generic driver. Insert the disc and attempt to manually load the driver

Hi -it shows now as an unknown device in Device Manager. I point it to the cd for the driver and that doesn't work so I let it search the internet but I get the same message up

The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor.
If you know the manufacturer of your device you can visit it's website check the support section for driver software

    I can't find the drivers on-line anywhere!

Id be tempted to uninstall the USB drivers and reboot to let Vista reinstall them

I know you said youve tried all USB ports

Keep it plugged into the ones in the rear (That should be 2.0 compliant)

Can you then UNINSTALL the 'unknown device' driver, reboot and try again?

  • Hi I don't have any in the rear - just one on the left and 3 on the right. It's a Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop. I've uninstalled to driver so I'll re-boot now
  • Ok the ones on the right are 2.0 compatible apparently so I updated all USB drivers - hooked the player up again and it showed again as an unknown device. The message in device manager says

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance.

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

im wondering if you have a faulty unit
It should simply plug in and play, so I cant see any reason for it now to at least recognise it

Id suggest taking the unit AND the laptop back and see what they CAN get to work on it (Try another unit first of course)

  • Thanks for trying anyway :) I have sent it back once and they have returned it saying they've had it up and running no problem! Looks like a trip to Maplin later this afternoon for me and the lappy then!
