A&L declined for Premier Direct Account....

Just applied to switch to A&L Premier Direct account but was declined. They have said that I have been successful for an ordinary current account and will receive the account pack in the post shortly. Has anyone else had this and if so what do you think my chances will be of upgrading to a premier direct account once I have had some +ve history with them?

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Fantastic, can I ask how long it took you?

I waited about 4-5 months, but I had my salary paid into the account and had all my direct debits taken from there as well. If you get refused, appeal.

Hi, My husband and myself were declined for the premier account at first in November. They sent us the forms to say we could have their basic bank account - these went straight into the recycle bin. We were not interested in switching to this account as we wanted to take advantage of the 0% interest overdraft for 12 months on the Premier account.

A couple of weeks went by and A&L phoned us to asked if we had received the forms for their basic account. I told them that I was only interested in opening an account with them if it was the Premier Direct accout. At this stage they then changed their minds and offered us the account.

I must admit though there are a couple of things I find annoying about A&L. If you pay cash into your account at the branch it doesn't appear on your account until the next day. If you pay in cheques it doesn't show on your account until 2 days after. When I paid money into my barclays account it always showed on my account the same day.

Also you have to ring them on their 0845 number if you want to cancel direct debits. I was able to do this myself on my Barclays account. I did try ringing the 0800 number on the saynoto0870.com but the lady I spoke to at the other end asked if I was calling from in the UK and that she would not help me. Of course the positive side is that Barclays charge for their account services monthly and their incredit interest isn't very good.

Good Luck and I hope you get the account you want.

Thanks that is really useful, I may just hang onto the forms for a couple of weeks and see if I get a call. I'm currently with Lloyds TSB but want to switch to a more cost effective account. Will keep you updated as and when I switch:o)

So be economical with the truth and withhold the number you're calling from.

It's no worse than misleading your customers into calling you on what is effectively a premium rate number without warning.

I applied and got turned down some 2 years ago and was quite peturbed by this so I went into my local branch with a couple of monthly payslips and it did the trick. You can but try.
