switching PS3 off completely?

Will it damage the PS3? I have just installed an intellipanel for our AV equipment, in the hope of reducing the standby time (have V+ and modem&router on always on)
BUT-if the PS3 is on will it damage it to have the power cut completely? We also have a portable HDD attached to it too which will have the power cut too. Now-it wont be in the middle of doing something-so OH will have to make sure saves his games etc, but just want to make sure won't end up with big bill to replace PS3 in small attempt to save money!
(if it is likely to REALLY cause damage can add it to the trail lead that is always on)
Thanks :)

It won't damage it as long as you put it in standby before turning the power off completely. I have read if you just cut the power of it can damage it in the long term. So stick it in standby first and you should be fine.

Make sure the PS3 is in standby. If its in the middle of updating firmware you may well completely knacker it

HMM maybe will keep in the always on socket then. as OH has habit of leaving it in the middle of a game :( so will get into habit of putting in standby first then maybe move it over. (if he loses his place in a game cos doesnt save it before it gets switched into standby then thats his fault!

I believe the PS3 is fairly low on power in standby anyway. However if you have a wii get it turned off! It uses tons of power in standby especially if wii connect is switched on (so wifi stays on in standby)

Yeah we have a wii too-which will be plugged into one of the switch off sockets. only problem is that one of theplug pins has broken on the power supply so need to replace the plug! Then will have it sorted :)
