Going wireless help needed

I have an wired Dynamode ADSL router connected to my PC. I have a new laptop with built in wifi. How do I get a wireless connection that I can use with my laptop?

The model number of the Dyanmode is R-ADSL-C4-2.

I have seen wireless USB adapters, would this work if I plug one into my PC?

Trying to avoid the expense of a new router.....

I'm afraid the Dynamode R-ADSL-C4-2 router does not have wireless capabilities built into it.

However, you can plug a USB dongle into your pc and share your computers internet over it (as ad hoc/computer to computer with the laptop). So you would have to share your wired connection in windows then set up a ad hoc network via the USB dongle and connect your laptop to it. It sounds a bit tricky but it can be done

Or you can buy a wireless extender which would plug into one of the Ethernet ports of the Dynamode R-ADSL-C4-2 but they might just be expensive...
  • Thanks Jaffa for your prompt reply. So I need either a USB dongle for my desktop or a wireless extender to plug into my router.

Now off to do some "Googling" to see what may be best/easiest/cheapest option!
  • Hi,

try your ISP, and say you want to go wireless, they might give you one free, if not, say you are moving.

If you get a wireless modem, you could then operate the laptop, get a dongle for the PC, or run an ethernet cable to the PC.

    Yup :)

Still don't rule out the option of getting a wireless router - after all the extenders are more expensive than the routers!

    See here:
    Extender and wireless router

And the usb thing, well cheaper but you need to have your computer on for you to use the internet on your laptop ;) I guess they both have their good and bad points

Asking your ISP sounds like a nice free and easy option though :p
