Can I buy a laptop power adaptor over the counter anywhere?

My mums Toshiba L30 is not showing any power getting to it. The battery has run out - my mum didnt realise:rolleyes:. She is lost without her laptop as she is more or less housebound. I was hoping there was somewhere I might be able to get a new power adaptor and mains lead over the counter somewhere.
I am assuming its the adaptor as the laptop just started using battery power even though plugged into mains and was working perfectly til battery ran out. Checked the fuse and the socket and they are fine.
The adapter outputs 19v or 3.4 A - anywhere I can buy one quickly for her.
Thanks.

Hi,
sorry if silly question, has it maybe got switched off accidentally, or has connection to laptop become loose, and there
should be a bit of heat in the transformer.0 -
Unfortunately quick and cheap don't go together. You can certainly get one in Maplin but at a price - Maplin ~ £40 eBay ~ £15
I assume you've checked the fuse.0 -
Hi, yes checked fuse first lol.
Ordered one from amazon express delivery, hopefully that will solve problem.0 -
The point of failure is the plug, cables or the socket in the laptop. Can you measure the voltage at the plug with a voltmeter about £3 from maplins?
Do a search for computer fairs in your area.0 -
I fear too late now, but before assuming the power supply has failed, can you check the output from the adaptor with a multimeter? Takes 2 mins. If it is giving 19V, then it's fine and that means that most likely the power pin on the laptop has failed. That is repairable, but will cost in the region of £100 at a specialist laptop repair shop (not PCW). If the laptop was working after the power failed but until the battery went flat, then that indicates that it's not something like motherboard failure. No free lunch, and no free laptop
