Do you think that the people that work in the fraud department of Nationwide have just fallen off a Christmas tree ?
They do investigate claims of fraud, they don't just take a customer's word for it. In this case, the merchant would supply the ISP address and the email address and other contact information that they took for the transaction - all would point to leotech. Nationwide would then hold leotech liable and note his account that he submitted a claim for fraud that turned out itself to be, shall we say, less than 100% honest.
If you want an organisation like Nationwide to help you in a case like this, then you have to be straight with them. Cancel the agreement and send this to Nationwide, so they can refund anything after the date of cancellation. You may need to take the hit on anything debited before you cancelled.
Nah you're so way off the mark it's bordering comedy.....
Ok, in a nutshell it doesn't matter what NW think, if a customer rings up and says I never authorised it and want it cancelled then the bank cancel it - simple. If the bank then make future payments they are at fault and you are allowed to claim any consequential damages for their inconcenience.
What you have to do is follow law, not banks rules cos banks will always have you over a barrel. I agree with Jones, it would be easier to say that you bought it and then decided to cancel the next day and rung them to utilise their cancellation period. As you bought it online you are protected under Distance Selling Act and your bank will then cancel the authority as under the DSA you have a period of 30 days after purchase in which to cancel.
Therefore your lie becomes smaller by you simply saying you did sign up for the service but rung to cancel the next day. Simple and plausible and impossible to disprove.
Those are the facts.
