there is no such thing as a silly question on here lol.
try reducing the amount of powder you are using as this can cause fading ,
if your whites are looking a bit grey try soaking them in a little spot of bleach,
tea towels as well just soak them in the sink with a touch of bleach as well before washing ,

Try washing your coloured clothes inside out, as this might help with the fading.

Do you hang your washing outside to dry? If so, also hang your coloureds inside out. The sun might also help bleach your whites.

every so often I put white work shirts/tea towels etc in a sink with a teaspoon of household borax or napisan, to soak for 1/2 hour then wash at 30 with 1 washing tablet.
been doing this for 30 years and whites always bright and crisp.

for coloureds I use 30 quick wash and 1 coloured washing tablet. I do find some of the cheaper clothes dont keep their bright colours as long as others.
same with jumpers, quick wash and coloured washing tablet. Always wash jumpers inside out less damage to the pile.

And always read washing labels before buying, anything that says hand wash only goes straight back on the rail;)

I wash my whites seperately with biological tablets
I wash my coloureds seperately with colour liquid
And darks get washed seperately with colour liquid.
Towels and bedding also seperately with biological tablets.

I find this keeps whites white and coloureds dont fade.

As to how to rescue the faded coloureds and grey whites, I have no idea!

This is what I do, fortunately I don't have anything where the colour runs, more luck than judgement.

I buy whichever powder/liquid is on offer, currently I have surf small and mighty. Aerial is the nicest smelling one but if these an offer, that wins hands down :money:The small and mighty surf and persil are go in an much as you use the cap as a measure so you don't use/waste too much :money: I wash the "whites" which are white clothes, bedding, teatowels and underwear on 50 and everything else on 40. Certainly never ever buy more than one powder etc for the job and havn't used softener for years, way before joining here as I never could tell the difference.

I use the cheapest washing powder I can find a 3kg bag/box from Tesco, I add a bag of washing soda and mix it in well. Half a cup per load in the machine. I got a set of measuring cups from Wilko's.

Sheets and towels I wash on 60 to kill any bugs. Whites and tea towels on 60 once a month otherwise at 40.

Coloureds at 40, any dark stuff I turn inside out, stops fading. Hang them on the line inside out too.

Bras I hand wash.........special things I use Tesco equivelent of persil silk and wool.

My whites are white and I do manage not to get too much fading with my colourds. In the winter I do dry things inside using a clothes airer from Argos in the back bedroom.

Until recently we were in sheltered housing where everything was dried in dryers, its so nice now to be able to hang clothes out on the line and smell the fresh air!!!

I use both powder and liquid, though not at the same time:rotfl: I may be wrong, but I'm sure I read once that liquids don't contain bleaching agents. So for that reason I use powder on my whites, and liquid on my coloureds. Seems to work well, but black can be a devil for losing colour. Like everyone else has said, washing inside out helps.
