I would use the cash elsewhere and try to purchase a laptop for the stuff you need.

The computer looks the part, but there is no clear description in the listing, just from what i see alot of junk posted in, too make it look good.

I picked up a Toshiba U300-L13 laptop from PC World for £250, ex display. It was not on the shop floor, i asked if they had any, and they had some in the back. Had a screw-cap missing from the back, but i contacted toshiba and they sent me one for free.

Centrino Chip (1.5Ghz, says Duo Core2, but i have no idea what i means)
    2 GB DDR Ram
    DVD Drive
    A hard drive
    A keyboard
    A mouse

The rest i dont use, the sister in law has a laptop from PC world, just over £350. Was one of them 'cheap ones', but has a celeron chip. A clear no no.

    Check around.

Even PCW usually supply a hard drive on their computers...but perfectly good at the price I agree.
I would suggest the OP has a look at Dell Outlet or someone like EuroPC for a goood refurb system. That way you get a properly built system with a warranty, and can easily buy the monitor elsewhere.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Bit academic now, as it has sold for £199.50 including delivery. Too much.

Only thing that annoyed me, is that i did not get a floppy drive, some people in the world use them still, and just another way of fleecing £20 from you.

OP - Have a look at Overclockers. Any of the computers there will do the job, they're a recommended company too :)

So spend a fiver and fit your own. If you still use floppies you're in the minority, really.

    Recommended by Nick Griffin, perhaps.

  • I had to dig my floppy drive out of a cupboard the other day to install raid/sata drivers. What a hassle.

Now that you're up and running , why not slipstream the drivers to the XP disk?

This combines the sata drivers and XP install, all onto one disk.

    Move along, nothing to see.
  • ^^Thanks for the responses; i'll take the advice on board and consider paying a little more from a more reliable seller.
