Hi guys, I'm in need of help here before I blow a gasket in front of my church-going brother

I bought a new LCD tv, with gold scart leads, and decided to watch my new Bond DVD. Took me a while to connect the right scart lead from the tv to the digibox and also to the DVD player but I got there. However, no sound when I put the DVD in although the picture works fine. Hadn't used the DVD player control in over a year so changed the batteries just in case, but no joy. Still no sound.

What haven't I done?

At this rate I'll have to watch it on my laptop which is fine but I'd prefer watching it on my new 32" LCD tv

Thanks in advance

This may sound silly, but is the scart lead pushed fully into the socket. I say this because I had this problem a while ago. it drove me mad for ages, and I even bought a couple new leads. It turned out that I wasnt pushing the lead into the socket hard enough, and therefore the video pins were connecting, but the sound ones werent!!! :D

Hopefully, it will be as simple as that.

Good luck, and let me know either way.

Some DVD players have a setting that mutes the sound on the SCART output for those that feed the sound output to a surround sound box.

If you check the DVD settings (usually "Menu" on the remote) you should find a setting where you can select whether the sound goes to the digital output. If you turn that off you should get sound back via the TV.

Treadway, you were spot on re the connections I hadn't pushed the scart leads in far enough at either end of the equipments. I was being careful (or weak, take your pick :o) as the tv is fairly flimsy compared to the old CRT so I didn't want to push too hard in case I split the casing somehow

I tried again this morning (again moderating potential 'blue' words as bruv not gone to church) and, behold, I got sound :j:j

Thanks a million. Now I can watch my Bond film later today on my new LCD tv, just need external speakers to enhance my listening pleasure :D

Thats fantastic. Glad you got it sorted. It just shows that you dont always have to be an electronic wiz (Or under 14 years old :D) to master these things.

Happy viewing, and happy Easter. ;)
