I really need some help.
I enter a lot of competitions here on the MSE forum. My PC use to crash very regularly after enetering maybe 5 comps. I only seemed to have a major problem with MSE. Although it did crash on other sites but not as offen. I put it down to a 5 year old Pc with only 25k of memory.
So on Thursday gone I took delivery of my new Dell with 2GB of memory. A completley new PC I was on the internet on sat and everythingw as fine. But tonight I have logged on and Internet Explorer again keeps crashing every few minutes? It does not crash if I continue to stay on the same pafe its when I click on a link the page freezes.
I am at my wiots end surely I cannot have picked up a virus already. The Pc came with Norton already loaded on. I was running ESET on my old PC
I would love to know whats going on?
Thanks so much

Internet Explorer hardly works on my laptop either. I use FF.
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
Download it, use it, see if that makes a different. That will determine if its IE or your computer.0 -
The advice above on trying FF is good, but one other thing - have you transferred any data from the old to the new PC?
If so, some viruses are capable of propagating via USB pendrive, CD, floppy disk and pretty much any other removable media you care to mention.
For your own peace of mind, I would recommend following the malware advice in the Stickies section of this forum.0 -

And replace Norton with a decent security suite at the earliest opportunity. Could you explain again when it 'freezes' and when it 'crashes'-when it crashes is it just closing IE? Are you getting any error messages?
Agree with Lokolo, use Firefox (much better browser anyway).
Are you experiencing crashes when offline too?
Possible problem with your internet connection?-how are you connecting and what speed are you getting? Run a test on http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/No free lunch, and no free laptop

Sounds like your internet link breaks for some reason, when you click on a link, which is going to another site, or load another page. A better explanation of "crashing" would help. Any other messages appear ?0

as macman said, get rid of norton ASAP.
use the removal tool to remove all traces of it: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
there are free alternatives that are much better than norton (avira antivir is one), but if you would rather pay for security software, get either kaspersky or eset0 -
Thank you for the replies. I have not transferred any data from the old to the new PC yet.
It does not crash when I'm offline only when using IE2010

When I click on the X to close I get a message saying IE not responding do I wish to close, restart or wait. When I close IE closes completley I'm uisng Vista.2010
