Best car can buy for under £2000?
Looking at getting another car due to having so many problems with mine at the moment, looking to only spend £2000, just seeing what is the best car I could buy second hand for that amount. Was thinking something quite reliable such as a honda or toyota, but want something that looks half decent also, any ideas?
There are so many makes and models around that I don't even know where to start!
Would be prepared to spend slightly more that that too if its a good one.
Thanks

My 2001 Mondeo packed in just over a year ago, couldnt afford finance so ended up buying an M reg BMW 3 series.. for £650... car was great for the first seven months then since that repairs + mot, etc has meant Ive spent nearly £1200 in other costs! Guess my point is, no matter how good you think the car is or how reliable the manufacturer is, you just never know until you take the plunge...
The only trick I would say worth trying is on auto traders website..
do advanced search and maybe put the mileage to under 40000... Ive done this in the past and it seems to throw up quite a lot of low mileage cars that look suspiciously like exmobility cars...0 -
7 months for a 650 purchase price is great (done same with an old rangerover). The only mistake was pouring money into it. When it broke/failed its MOT needing a lot of work, i'd have scrapped it and bought another car with over 6 months MOT and under £800.0

Now dont laugh (Seriously dont, please...
) but I bought a Rover 620 ti (Oi, I said dont laugh!!!
) over two years ago for the princely sum of £675, and since then Ive had to spend maybe £250-£300 on it, which I dont think is too bad, considering that includes tyres.
Personally, I think rovers are fantastic cars, and even my last car was a 600 (Until some bint pulled out on me at a junction and wrote it off for me!!!). Seriously though, the only thing Ive had to get done was have the handbrake tightened, as it failed on this years MOT on that, but thats the biggest thing Ive had to do with it.
Also as its a 2 litre turbo, it goes like stink, so catches alot of the young boy racers by surprise as they disappear in my rear view mirror (Im a big kid at times!!! LOL)
I dont know where you live seabass, but if your anywhere near Essex, Id suggest checking out a place called east coast salvage. Theyve got a website so just google it and youll find it, but they do all sorts of cars from part damaged to immaculate repo's. Theyre definately worth a look.
good luck.0 -
It would help to know the size of car u want and what you mainly use it for.
Also what is your current car and what is wrong with it.0 -

No laughing at all, the 620 was one of Rover's finest as was the 827/Sterling.....both of them were basically Honda's with Rover badges.
Made at a time when Rover was sharing with Honda and a lot of the quality rubbed off onto Rover.
The 623i with auto box was one of the nicest cars to drive of its time IMO, being powerful but not so vicious as the 620 turbo.
Unfortunately greed got the better and the love affair with Honda was sacrificed for 30 pieces of BMW silver...the rest is history.
The 75 is/was an equally lovely car too.0 -

Not to bothered about the size, although not that big a fan of things such as a Ford KA.
Currently use it for commuting to work 5 days a week, about 40mins each way, the odd run around to the shops, and about once to twice a month maybe a longer 4-5 hour jouney say.
Current car is a Honda, it's a good car but an old one, the repairs won't actually cost that much, just time for another one I think, could probably sell it for about £1k after the repairs. Wouldn't actually mind another honda as I have not had that much trouble with it up until now.0 -
I'm a Honda fan, OH is a BMW fan. I don't think you can go much wrong with either. I drive a 1997 Civic Coupe, he drives a 1995 318tdi, both are strong, reliable cars.

Rover's are completely off limits for me, I have had one before and pretty much of spend half my life at the road side or in the garage getting it repaired, the repairs must of actually cost more than the car! I cringe whenever I see a rover!
Although those MGF's are quite nice looking cars and cheap too, how are these for reliability?0 -
No MGF, they might look cute but has too much problems - avoid. If you fancy a cheap open top then the mazda mx5 is the one to get.
Japanese and german cars are top. For what you use it for then a small car with excellent reliability is the one to get - toyota yaris should be top of your list great little car. Other recommended the skoda fabia, ford fiesta, micra etc.0 -
Mazda MX5 lush car, not so sure on tax and insurance.0
