Make up on Roof

I had a quote to re roof my house. It said 2nd hand quality slates would be used and "50% make up allowed". I think I now know what this means as the job is done but can someone please tell the correct meaning in the Roofing Industry?

As I'm aware that most tradesmen will be on holiday I'm just bumping this so it doesn't disappear.
Are there any tradesmen out there?Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -

it means they have only priced for 50% of "new" used slates. the rest are to come from your roof. they are assuming that half of your slates will be reusable.
if they require more, you will have to pay extra for materials.Get some gorm.0 -

No not empty, we just can't read screen cos of the tears the bloomin economy is causing, never in 22 years has my phone rang less, even wit jobs I don't want,,,,,, Oh,50% is what Ormus says, but my question is why use old porous discoloured tiles , replace the lot and get new quote.0

You wouldn't believe how many roofers did not turn up to quote. The quotes I did get ranged from £8000 +vat to £23000+vat and this was for spanish tiles with a 1 year to 10 years guarantee. Talk about being confused as the only thing that seemed different was the guarantee! I ended up with a quote that enabled me to take get a long guarantee that seemed good value for money with Scottish slates but this included the 50 make up. These have been put on one side of the roof and the other slates on the back.At least my home should be watertight again so thanks for the info.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

I have heard Rimmel silk works well as "make up on a roof"0

to be honest with you, a roofers (or any builders) guarantee is worth about as much as gordon browns chances of still being PM next year.
a guarantee is only really valid if backed by an insurance company.Get some gorm.0 -
I have it backed by an Insurance company as that was exactly my thoughts.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
