Dell Monitor problem

Hi, my dad is experiencing problems with the monitor for his Dell 5110 desktop. The monitor stopped working suddenly whilst he was online and now the screen is blank, when switching on the light goes green and then orange with no activity on the screen. After unplugging everything and turning it back on it works for long enough for the computer to boot up but then stops working again, any advice would be appreciated, thanks

It sounds like there is a fault with the monitor which you would test by plugging a different monitor into the computer.
There is the possibility that somehow the resolution of the monitor has changed which would explain why the display disappears after boot up. To check this, try booting in safe mode.
If everything works in safe mode, delete the display adapter (graphics card) and restart in normal mode. The computer will detect new hardware and re-install the graphics card allowing you to re-set the resolution.0
